Orphaned as an infant, Alex was raised by a single mother in a traveling ballet troupe. When the 7th Umbral Calamity occurred, Alex was separated from his family. First joining the gladiator's guild to gain the needed funds, Alex then traveled to Limsa Lominsa in hopes of gathering information from a group that was rumored to operate out of there. After joining the Rogues' Guild, fate would cast its eyes towards the Miqo'te and Alex's adventure would truly begin.

While attempting to track down a group responsible for a string of pick-pocketing incidents, Alex would run into a Roegadyn woman who had just arrived to Limsa Lominsa. Helping her fend off the pick pocket and his gang, Alex offered a farewell and a promise of future assistance should the woman ever call on him again. The woman, Tsubaki Ryoko, would take him up on the offer and Alex would end up joining her on a very dangerous mission: defeat the recently summoned primal Titan.After defeating Titan, Alex would receive a crystal, awakening his echo and adding him to the ranks of Warriors of Light. With Tsubaki vouching for him, Alex would join the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.
During a mission for the Rogues' Guild to gain evidence against a smuggling ring, Alex was accidentally stuck on board a pirate ship as it fled port. Discovered by the crew, Alex was tied to the mast and flogged. Rescue would come in the form of Merlwyb, the Admiral of the Maelstrom. After feigning that Alex was a member of the Maelstrom, with Alex self-reporting the rank of "Sergeant", Merlwyb would be able to distract the captain long enough for the Rogues' to find the appropriate evidence against the pirate.After recovering in the Maelstrom medical bay, Alex would go to the Admiral's office to thank her, only for her to tell him that it was what she would do for one of her "Sergeants". Alex then realized that Merlwyb expected him to pay back the favor by joining the Maelstrom, which he soon did after much consideration.With the scars on his back serving as a reminder of what happened, Alex would serve in the Maelstrom dutifully as a member of the Reconnaissance and Espionage Corps, quickly climbing the ranks to Captain due to his determination and skill.
